Indian mobile giant Bharti Airtel has teamed up with ride sharing service Uber to allow paying for trips using its Airtel Money service and offer free on-board 4G connectivity.
Under the collaboration, Airtel will become Uber's official telecom partner in India, offering mobile, data and device plans to Uber drivers.
The companies will also team up to develop promotions and marketing efforts. To kick off this collaboration, new Uber customers paying for the service with Airtel money will be offered 500 rupees ($7.50) off their first ride.
Uber riders will also be able to use free 4G mobile internet services over the Airtel network, including web browsing, internet app use and messaging.
“Our partnership with Uber is directly in line with our commitment to offer innovative and relevant services for our customers,” Bharti Airtel director for consumer business Srini Gopalan said.
“We are excited that Uber has chosen Airtel to fulfill its telecom needs, and look forward to supporting the company’s rapid growth across India.”
