Singapore, December 2, 2015 – Huawei Technologies and Cisco Systems were the big winners in Telecom Asia’s 8th annual Readers' Choice & Innovation Awards. Huawei and Cisco took home three awards each, while Nokia and Ericsson also had a good night, with both firms winning two awards.
A total of 21 awards were presented to 15 companies during the gala awards ceremony at the Marina Mandarin Hotel in Singapore Wednesday night.
Huawei Technologies, for the fourth year, won awards in three categories. The company’s 5G air interface on sub-6GHz band won our first award for 5G Innovation of the Year, and also swept the projects category, winning Wireless Network Project of the Year (for its Cloudified VoLTE Solution Demo and Mobile Network Architecture with China Mobile) and Fixed Broadband Project of the Year (for its 10-Gbps FTTH rollout with HKT).
Cisco’s three awards include IoT/M2M Innovation of the Year for its Cisco IoT System. The firm's other wins: NFV Innovation of the Year (for Virtual Packet Core), and Fixed Broadband Innovation of the Year (for its cBR-8 Converged Broadband Router).
Nokia won the categories of CEM Innovation of the Year (for CEM on Demand) and LTE Innovation of the Year (for its LTE-based network in a box). Ericsson scored Network Optimization Innovation of the Year (App Experience Optimization), as well as our first award for Video Platform Innovation of the Year (for its cloud DVR solution).
Other winners for this year include ZTE, which took the Small-cell Innovation of the Year award with its Qcell solution. VMware won Cloud Innovation of the Year for vSphere 6. Nuage Networks earned SDN Innovation of the Year with its Virtualized Services Assurance Platform.
The Comptel Operational Intelligence Module was selected as OSS Innovation of the Year. The BSS Innovation of the Year went to CSG International for its CSG Ascendon Digital Services Platform.
The Analytics Innovation of the Year was awarded to Amdocs for its Big Data Actionable Analytics solution. The Optical Network Innovation of the Year award went to Infinera for its Cloud Xpress metro optical platforms.
Ciena was voted Data Center Innovation of the Year for its Waveserver Data Center Interconnect Platform, while the Test & Measurement Innovation of the Year went to Viavi (formerly known as JDSU) for TrueSpeed VNF.
Gigamon's GigaSECURE Security Delivery Platform was named the Telecoms Security Innovation of the Year, and the very first Future TV Innovation of the Year award went to Brightcove for its Brightcove Video Cloud.
Each year Telecom Asia organizes the Readers’ Choice & Innovation Awards to recognize the advancements and contributions of the industry’s top vendors from around the region.
The awards continue to emphasize innovation while expanding their scope, said managing editor Stefan Hammond. “Once again this year, we've kept things focused on innovation," he said. “But we also expanded the focus of that innovation by splitting SDN and NFV into separate categories, and by adding new technology categories generating a lot of buzz in the industry, including two for video-related services, and – of course – 5G.”
The editors of Telecom Asia narrowed down the nominations from readers for 21 categories to a shortlist of 90 entries, representing 51 companies. Voting was open to our online subscriber base of service providers in early October.
