1-Net Singapore has commenced construction of a new data center designed to meet the emerging demands in content digitization in Singapore and the Southeast Asia region.

The new data center, 1-Net North, will be Singapore’s first Tier III designed and constructed data center to be certified by the Uptime Institute, and is expected to be completed by last quarter of 2015.

In Southeast Asia alone, the online video audience grew around 8% in the past year. Southeast Asia also ranks higher than the global average when it comes to music, movies and entertainment consumption.

In recognition of the growing consumption of rich data in the region, 1-Net is also the first in the Southeast Asia region to provide a specialized offering to companies looking to focus on digitized content.

The data center launch by 1-Net in Singapore is the first of its regional expansion milestones in the Southeast Asia region, and 1-Net will be looking to tap on other Southeast Asia countries like Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand.

“We’ve seen a shift in the way consumers consume their information over the last few years, and businesses have also responded by changing the way they engage customers. With the opening of this new 1-Net Data Center, 1-Net aims to become Asia’s data center of choice,” said Mr. Wong Ka Vin, Managing Director of 1-Net Singapore.

The 1-Net North is over 200,000 square feet and will be located at Marsiling. The new building is on a long-term lease from CitySpring Infrastructure Trust (CitySpring), as part of a joint venture with Shimizu Corporation, and the total investment is expected to cost around S$130 million ($103.9 million). 1-Net will also be investing an additional S$70 million to fit out the data center with the technology required to attain the Tier III Design and Construct certification.

1-Net North will be supported by a team of highly skilled and experienced data center experts who will complement the advanced capabilities of this data center.

The data center is working towards receiving its Tier III Facility Design and Construction Certifications, and will be able to achieve the highest reliability and efficiency standards established by industry best practices by the Uptime Institute. To receive this certification, the entire data center is required to undergo significant testing for uninterrupted operation during maintenance activities.
