The English refereeing body, Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), who are responsible for officiating games across English football, is reported to be investigating a video allegedly showing Premier League referee David Coote disrespecting Liverpool and former manager Jurgen Klopp.
Bet Premier League on Bet365The 42-year-old referee was the referee during Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday evening. In a shocking unverified video that has now circulated on social media, David Coote was caught using an expletive to describe former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
The footage shows Coote in conversation with an unknown man, who asks the official what he thinks of Klopp. Coote responds, “C***. Absolute c***,” before adding: “Aside from having a right pop at me when I reffed him against Burnley in lockdown, then he accused me of lying and then just had a right f****** pop at me. And I’ve got no interest in speaking to someone who’s f****** arrogant. So I do my best not to speak to him. [James] Milner’s alright.”
In a second video, Coote adds, “Just to be clear, that f****** last video can’t go anywhere. Seriously.” It is currently unclear if the video was recorded before or after this match of Liverpool's last weekend 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Anfield Stadium.
The refereeing body, the PGMOL, said: "David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete."
Coote started referring as a sixteen-year-old. He refereed in the Notts Alliance League, the Northern Counties East Football League, the Northern Premier League, and the Conference North before being promoted to the Football League list of referees as an assistant referee.
