Luke Shaw returned to England training, as all 26 players took part in a session on Monday ahead of their Euro 2024 clash with Slovenia.
Bet Euro 2024 on Bet365Luke Shaw joined the Three Lions for the first time this summer during Euro 2024 after recovering from a hamstring injury. He had been training on his own to regain fitness following the hamstring injury he suffered in February. The injury had sidelined Shaw from playing for his club since February, so Gareth Southgate's decision to include him in the team after four months without match action came as a surprise to many.
England have confirmed that all 26 players in Southgate’s squad, including Shaw, have been “involved in today’s (Monday) training session.”
"All 26 #ThreeLions players are set to be involved in today’s training session. @_DeclanRice will join Gareth Southgate for our pre-match media conference in Cologne later on."
The Three Lions on their official X handle posted that
Twenty-eight-year-old Shaw, who has 31 senior international caps to his name, is the only specialist left back in England's squad. Kieran Trippier has filled in at left-back in the opening two games against Serbia and Denmark, but the Newcastle full-back is naturally right-footed and has made the side look unbalanced at times, with he and Phil Foden both cutting inside from the left flank.
On Tuesday, June 25, England will face Slovenia at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne. Securing just one point will be sufficient for them to qualify for the last 16, but the Three Lions will aim to clinch the top spot in Group C. If England finishes as Group C winners, they will face one of the best third-place finishers from Groups D, E, or F, but if England finishes second, they would be drawn against Germany in the last-16 stage.
