Bet US Open on Bet365Evans won 6-7(8), 7-6(2), 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4, securing a match that can be categorized as a survival of the fittest and breaking the record for the longest U.S. Open match since 1970.
The match didn't appear to be heading for a record when Khachanov took a 4-0 lead in the final set. He then had four break points on Evans's serve but was unable to convert. Each set lasted more than an hour, with the third set stretching to 72 minutes.
The previous record was five hours and 26 minutes in the 1992 semi-final between Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang. Edberg won the match 6-7(3), 7-5, 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-4.
