Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan is preparing to switch his professional sports to tennis as he prepares to make his debut in an ATP doubles event at the Uruguay Open.

Forlan was regarded as one of the best forwards of his generation, including winning notable trophies like the Premier League, FA Cup, and community shield with Manchester United in the 2002/03 season and winning the Europa League and Super Cup with Atletico Madrid.
Forlan also appeared in 112 international matches for Uruguay and played an important role in his team reaching the 2010 World Cup semi-finals and winning the 2011 Copa America. The Uruguay striker, after a year's spell with Kitchee of the Hong Kong Premier League, announced the end of his football career.
However, in a turn of career twist, the 45-year-old, who has been playing in ITF Masters events, is now set to compete in the men's doubles category in November alongside Argentine partner Federico Coria, who is currently ranked 101st in singles. The doubles partners were granted a spot as a wildcard for the ATP Challenger event. The tournament will be played on an outdoor clay surface. The Uruguay Open will take place from November 11-17.
