The game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox was suspended on June 26 due to rain while 29-year-old player Jansen was batting for the Blue Jays. The game resumed on Monday with Jansen now playing as a catcher for the Red Sox and the Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho pinch-hitting in Jansen's place. This marked the first time a baseball player played for two sides in the same game in MLB history.

The Blue Jays won the fixture 4-1, with Jansen appearing in the box score and line-up for both teams.

“I was surprised when I found out I was the first one to do it. So it's cool. Leaving a stamp like that on the game, it’s strange and it’s interesting. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have that. And at the end of the day, it's a cool thing.”

Jansen said after the game.
