The BBC Sports Personality of the Year (SPOTY) 2024 awards will be held on December 15, 2024, at Media City in Salford, England. This year will mark the 71st edition of the annual ceremony. The award is always organized to honor British athletes or athletes doing their business on English soil. Different championships will shape this year’s award and also the Olympic games, since this edition falls into the Olympics year. England and former Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps won the award in 2023 after outstanding World and European outings, but she couldn’t make the list this time. Keely Hodgkinson
Although Keely Hodgkinson was never the top contender in recent months, her achievement at the Olympics has pushed her forward as the top contender. She was exceptional at the Olympics, winning gold in the women’s 800m final. She had, in previous Olympic games, won two silvers. She became the 10th British woman to win athletics gold at an Olympic Games.
Lando Norris
This year has been an excellent year for Lando Norris. The British-Belgian motorsports racing driver has recorded 3 race wins, 6 pole positions, 10 fastest laps, and 24 podiums in Formula One. He got his maiden win at the Miami Grand Prix, the Netherlands, and Singapore.
Bet with Bet365Luke Littler
Luke Littler made a name for himself this January when he made it to the final of the World Darts Championship in his first appearance at the world level, where he lost to Luke Humphries. However, Littler went on to win his first World Series title at the Bahrain Darts Masters. Despite losing to Luke Humphries in the final at Alexandra Palace, Littler soon got his revenge, becoming the youngest Premier League Darts champion in history.
Sarah Storey
After another glorious display in the 2024 Paris Paralympic, where she won her 19th Paralympic gold, Sarah Storey added another title to her cabinet in the recent Para riders at the 2024 Road and Para-cycling World Championships in Switzerland. The 46-year-old is not showing any sign of relaxing and even claimed to be ready for the 2028 LA Paralympic. She is a strong contender for this prize.
