The 34-year-old boxer failed in his bid for the IBF world heavyweight title at Wembley Stadium earlier this month as he was outclassed on the night in a damaging fifth-round knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois.

The British Boxing Board of Control and Combative Sports, in protocol to rules, has now prohibited Joshua from stepping into the ring for 28 days, with the British Boxing Board of Control enforcing the rule.

The Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports highlights that it's standard procedure for fighters to be issued medical suspensions after suffering KO and TKO defeats.

Once his medical suspension is over, 'AJ' is free to resume contact training and sparring ahead of his return to the ring. A rematch against Dubois is being considered, while promoter Eddie Hearn has proposed an alternative route.

Joshua's loss to Dubois marks the fourth defeat in Joshua's career. In 2019, he suffered a surprising loss to Andy Ruiz Jr., only to claim victory in their rematch six months later. When Joshua was asked following his defeat to Dubois about his career in boxing.

"Do I want to continue fighting?" Of course I want to continue fighting. That’s why I said we took a shot at success and we came up short. And what does that mean right now?  "Are we gonna run away? Are we going live to fight another day? And that’s what I am. A warrior."
