Former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale broke down in tears after he was given a huge reception by fans on his return to the Emirates Stadium since moving to Southampton.
Bet Football With Bet365The goalkeeper moved to Southampton on a permanent £25 million deal during the summer, ending his three-year stay in north London. Ramsdale made 89 appearances in total for the Gunners and was also named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for 2022-23.
Despite his departure, Ramsdale still remains the fan favorite among the Arsenal supporters after falling behind David Raya. Ramsdale was seen being emotional after Arsenal's 3-1 defeat to Southampton, wiping away tears with his gloves, before giving the thumbs up and winking at the crowd.
Ramsdale made it clear earlier before the match that he moved to Southampton to get more first-team playing time than just sit on the bench to win trophies.
“If I was sitting on the bench, it [winning a trophy] wouldn't have meant that much to me,” “I just wanted to play football. As a kid I wanted to play football to play, not to just sit on a bench. Getting out and playing was my aim so I'm lucky I found myself here.”
Ramsdale told BBC Football Focus.
Rasmdale helped the Southampton defense frustrate Arsenal attackers in the first half by making a couple of saves, with the scoreline going into the break ending at 0-0. Southampton went on to score an early second-half goal, but goals from Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, and Bukayo Saka saw the Gunners take all three points from the match.
